On January 12th, Project Codara held an online Tech Careers 101 info session in partnership with guest professionals via Zoom. This session, designed for individuals exploring tech roles without a college degree, focused on introducing a variety of careers—from software development and UX design to cybersecurity—and the steps needed to pursue them. Topics included coding fundamentals, user experience research methods, cybersecurity best practices, and strategies for building portfolios, earning certifications, and expanding professional networks. Our team and guest experts also led interactive polls to gauge participants’ interests, facilitated breakout discussions for peer sharing, and hosted a live Q&A to answer questions about career pathways and skill-building. This was the first info session organized and run entirely by our volunteers alongside guest professionals, without involvement from senior leadership. It was a major success, and we plan to continue hosting more sessions with industry partners based on this event’s overwhelmingly positive feedback.
On January 25th, Project Codara held an online Python for Beginners training workshop via Zoom. This workshop, designed specifically for first-time coders, focused on introducing participants to the fundamentals of Python programming—covering setup and installation, basic syntax, variables and data types, control flow statements, and defining functions. Our volunteer instructors guided attendees through live coding demonstrations and hands-on exercises, including a mini-project to build a simple calculator application. Interactive polls gauged confidence levels, and a dedicated Q&A segment answered questions about debugging, best practices, and next steps. Attendees left with resource links, sample code, and clear guidance on how to continue their learning journey, and we plan to offer more beginner-focused workshops based on this session’s positive feedback.
